OP
Hey everyone, a few pieces of news for you:
1. New Domain
We have moved away from freeinfantry.org and now use http://freeinfantry.com instead. You may see outdated links around that still point to the old domains - we will be fixing those. If you are recommending any new players, please link to the freeinfantry.com domain.
The reason for doing this is because we do not have ownership or access to the .org domain. The person who owns it does not wish to give us access to it, so whenever something goes down we have to wait for the owner to do something.
In the past, it has meant a lot of downtime and people having issues connecting to play. Since the server is run on your donations, there's an understandable expectation that the server be available during critical times (weekends).
2. New Website
I have opted to do a new website, one that is hopefully a tad more modern and functional on variety of screen sizes, down to phone screen sizes if need be.
You can take a look at a preview of the site here - http://freeinfantry.com/new/
It is still a work in progress and commentary is welcome. I am hoping to keep it all as one page, the way that you see it now.
3. New Map Editor
It has come to my attention that people want to develop new maps but our current tools suck. I run Windows 10 and I can sympathize to how fucked up the situation is.
Some years ago I started work on a new map editor to explore the viability of getting it to draw the tiles and objects in the exactly same way the current map editor does, and to a large degree this part is completed.
I will be dusting off this project and hopefully push it to completion. I do not have a definitive timeline for you, however you can watch the development progress on our Trello board here - https://trello.com/b/p8MIbGHI/infantry-online. Mizzouse and I use this to track what bugs people report and what needs fixing.
That's all I have for the time being.
