Given the experience we gained from last season coupled with the shift towards salary caps, I think it's important to make a few key changes prior to Season 8. I've summarized the changes below in the form of a new staff list (the tl;dr version) and will expand at the bottom of this message.
Summary of changes:
Community Development & Support
Game/Zone Developers: Mizzouse, Palm, Jovan, Ace
Webmaster: Champion
Community Director: Armor
USL Administrative Staff
League Administrator - Fausto
Deputy Administrators - Dave, Fairfax
USL Staff
Salary Cap Moderators - dp, yosh, Khaleesi
Sr. Referees - District, Colossal, Pandy, God
Referees - victim, Death, CB, Infinite, negativezero, Z
Explanation of Changes
Administrative Staff Changes
Staley and I both feel that it's important that we pass the reigns on to a new, respected group of players to continue running the league. My short list of candidates included Fausto, Dave, and Fairfax and I'm happy to welcome them all to the USL Administrative Staff.
League Administrator - Responsible for assisting in decisions. Has the final say on issues. Helps shift staff around, as needed, and is responsible for the overall success of the league.
Fausto is a fantastic addition to the staff in this role. He obviously has a long history with both Infantry and USL and he's level-headed, fair, extremely professional, and a very positive person overall. I think he was the perfect choice to succeed Staley and I in our roles and I hope you guys feel the same.
Deputy Administrator(s) - In-game presence with decision-making authority to help during matches. Will help spread the load to make sure that we always have someone with strong decision-making authority in-game during matches.
This is one of the areas that we felt we needed some improvement and clarity on going into Season 8. Dave and Fairfax are both held in high regard as members of the USL community and I think they'll do a great job at "keeping the peace" by making fair decisions. Excited to have both of them on the administrative team.
Other Changes
Salary Cap Moderators - Will monitor a thread in captain's forum weekly to manually ensure that all squads are under the salary cap (unless we decide to integrate into the website). Will also be responsible for rating incoming players that weren't initially rated.
dp, yosh, and Staley have all played big roles within USL in the past and wanted to continue to help out, but couldn't commit to Sundays. I thought the best fit for them was to help us out by monitoring the salary caps and helping to correct any issues we may face in our first season of this format. Thank you guys for sticking around to help out!
Sr. Referees and Referees
I recognized that at this point in the game, there's really not a need for a Head Referee or League Moderators (although you could argue these shifted to "Salary Cap Moderators" - that role is more defined than the general "advisor" role they were in before). Several of our former "head staff" members offered to step down into referee roles to help the league. This is always a tremendous need for us and it seems that we can never have enough referees... especially if we shrink the number of squads! Thanks for stepping up into these roles!
Community Roles
I attempted to more clearly define what I see as the community-oriented roles as well. These roles generally extend beyond USL and more into the general realm of Infantry.
While the game developers section is pretty straight-forward, I'll add some color around my thoughts for the "Community Director" role. While I'm expecting to slowly distance myself from more of the league operations, I still plan on hanging around as an advisor to Fausto, Dave, and Fairfax for the time being. I also want to help support the Basketball League in any way that I can as they've had a steady population of 10-15+ people logging on from 10PM to 2AM EST every night for weeks. In addition, I think there are a few other things that we can do to help improve the community that I'll shed some light on soon.
