This has been the worst season ever tbh. Not from a competitive standpoint but from a league standpoint. Salary cap forces an occasional player into a non existent player. I know a few people who wanted to actually play and show up to a few games this season.. maybe 1 or 2.
Roster lock was on way too early, what exactly is the point of it with salary cap anyways?
If you're restricting just 1 person from participating in the league, I feel you failed as a staff.

It's always been and always going to be top 3 squads shit on everyone else. The only thing it really did was split up chris and sov who apparently are the root of all the evil "stacking"

Thanks for the input, Apollo. Would you say this season was/is more competitive than previous FI seasons?

Because of the fact that Miracle still has 585 salary points to pick up players, and the players that you're referencing didn't join Miracle, I assume it's because they were unable to play with some or all of the players that they prefer to play with. Would you agree?

Would you prefer that we forego the salary cap and return to the system that USL had before?

I did not play this season, because when I finally did have time to play, the roster lock was active.

I am not up to date with how this league works now, but it does seem confusing to have any restrictions to let someone who is squadless to join a squad, even just for playoffs, if said squad has available cap space. Not sure if you guys do "trading" or anything like that, but maybe just restrict that at a certain point. Perhaps make the roster lock a bit more loose, allowing someone who is without a squad to join one pending staff approval after a certain date. This way you can still put a stop to people who are petty enough to quit their squad that missed their playoffs before this lock, to join a squad who is in the playoffs. I understand that this might sound self serving, because I said I did not play because the roster lock was active during my own time of activity, but I do feel that promoting activity should be very high on the staff's checklist.

This season has had some interesting changes and I could see the salary system working with the right numbers; a single exploitation being that high salary players could make another account and join a squad to stack it.

I feel certain squads had an extraordinary amount of high caliber players (looking at you dave, yosh) compared to other squads. But it's a good thing in my perspective as it forces other squads to improve to rise to the challenge. This is going to take seasons for players and squads to improve to adjust to this difficulty.

How many squad battles/match time have you all had this season? I've only had one with two matches and then I had just 4 minutes 57 seconds in a scheduled match this entire season.

Captains not being able to send new invites after roster lock is a bad idea.(assuming they have room within salary cap)
If someone is in player pool, has a rating, wants to play and a squad has the space....why would we prevent that?

dave, just because someone has room, doesn't mean they'll let you on. You basically put everyone who was wanting to play in the hands of miracle (the only squad with sufficient space). That does not seem fair really.

If we look at why there was a salary cap in the first place, it was to balance the league yes? After watching this whole season unfold, I am left with the conclusion that it is still the same as it was before. Three squads (sometimes two) at the top with the chance to win, and then the rest. Only difference is, the playerbase is A LOT smaller.

I would completely remove the salary cap and examine roster sizes again (12 should be good if the new norm. is 7vs7), remove roster lock (add a wait time for leaving squads instead), I like what the league has done towards the home/away choosing of maps.

After doing this, yes there will be stacking... there will be 3 squads max that have potential to win it. Only difference is the playerbase will be a lot bigger.

If the cap is lowered, doesn't that introduce more parity? Instead of removing it altogether, and having the same result of seasons prior. Reducing roster sizes does not seem like a solution.

We definitely hear all of you about trying to be as inclusive as possible with the playerbase. This was a concern of ours before S8 started, and it's still a concern now. This is why the salary cap was increased from 1200 to 1300, though that admittedly did little to help. Perhaps increasing the minimum number of players from 11 to 12-13 would have had better results.


Flair:

Feedback received. The roster lock and it's role in the league will be discussed with the staff. Personally I believe that a squad should be able to pick up a player past the roster lock if they're squadless because we should be encouraging more people to play, and because squad's activity does change during the season.

3K:

It's a concern that a top player could make another account, but it doesn't seem to be an issue (yet!). I agree that Overwatch has a high number of top caliber players, and they were projected to be the season's favorites, but I think most would not/did not predict Rejects to be having the season we are. Rejects has the advantage of working very well together, and our starters show almost every week. I would say this is because Infantry is all that we care about, we're huge nerds, and most of us have been playing together for a while now. It is our intention to increase the parity of the league, and that means making the squads as competitive as possible. The question is what do we do to get there while including as many players as we can (eliminating the draft league idea).

Apollo:

This season certainly wasn't the best that it could have been, as we would've liked to have seen all 6 squads be competitive with one another, but it was a learning process. I believe this season was better in terms of blowouts and overall competition. With some changes in our ratings, salary system, and perhaps some other areas, we can build upon what we've learned and seen this season to make the next one much better.

Removing the salary cap and going to a 12 man max roster would not have the result you're seeking. If your intention is to increase the playerbase and give all of those who want to play (even only one game or two) the opportunity to do so, going to a 12 man roster will result in the same problem you're complaining about. With a 12 max roster, players who are the most active will be chosen to be on squads. Without the salary cap, you would see 1 or 2 squads cannibalize the best, most active players and the league's competition would reduce.

I appreciate that you're trying to include as many players as possible in the league, and that's something that is very important, but your proposal does not do that. I would argue that if we had continued on the path we were before this season, we would have seen more players drop out of the league and stop playing, or show to fewer and fewer matches. We were on a path to nowhere. With an unlimited roster, it made the league worse. With a 12 max roster and no salary cap, the league will be worse.

Please keep the feedback and ideas coming. I believe that we can make this league more inclusive and more competitive, so please keep sharing your opinions.

e: I'd also like to add that this season may have been more competitive if we had more capable Captains willing to step up. If anyone has an idea about how we can encourage this sacrifice, please share.

This season isn't that bad. I think most of the problems stem from bad ratings. A lot of people on rejects and BB(lol manu 0/3 when rape lines rule enforced) are so underrated. Fax 225 lol. Dave don't be delusional. Most of your squad can honestly fall between 160 and 130 for marines. While there haven't been much blowouts, it's just worse competitive play. It only took week 3 for us to get down to zero squads sbing weekly. Right now there is only one squad that consistently shows for pub play. That's pretty abysmal. Better rated players probably mean more distribution of active players and most squads forced to use someone they would probably consider a liability in the game, which is fine. If squads aren't sbing, most people are just going to use the same starting lineup with maybe 1/2 interchangeable players depending on who shows or if it's 8v8. I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't play this game to play pub and sit in spec on Sunday.

TLDR; Don't let shit players rate others.

Actually Gurp, I personally dont think the skill level of the rater really matters. This is shown in pro sports all the time. Whether someone has played the sport in the past vs someone who hasn't doesnt really help their rating of players. This is also shown in scouting.

My personal thought is what I suggested at the beginning, we should not have seen other peoples ratings for players. That would force the person doing the ratings to actually think for themselves and you would have seen more variances in the #'s except when we're talking about say an Easoe or Champ.


In regards to Fax as a 225. Who's a better medic than him in the game currently? You/Kippa? anyone else? How far fetched the ratings are is YOUR opinion and I highly recommend you become part of the rating team next season.
