I was talking about this with a few people. Let's say SOE(daybreak) still had Infantry and put resources into it.. perhaps getting it on steam and supported league play and all that. How exactly would a game like Infantry make money? If you owned this game and wanted to market it to a playerbase, how would you make this game support itself, maybe not turn a profit.. but at least not be a sinking ship of money.
Would you make this game p2p? We tried that and it didn't work and killed the population.
I heard someone say charge money to play different classes.. but wouldn't that be pay to win in an extent?
Would be interesting to hear some ideas in a hypothetical situation where this game could make money, while still having a substantial playerbase.

look at rocket league & league of legends. I think that answers your question.

I like this hypothetical scenario.
I'd think shit like different macro voices, buyable in game cash packs ( maybe even exp but there'd have to be a limit ), different colored weapon bullets, different uniforms, maybe even those double points per-kill packs (2,4,etc hrs). Interesting question

Yeah, but could you really have "skins" on infantry? You could pay for banners, but do you think people would pay for a banner next to their name.. at least enough of them to make enough to support the game?

Realistically do you guys see people paying to join squads or leagues? Wouldn't the game want to promote leagues more than anything and turn this shit into an eSport (would be more watchable than an FPS game).
Perhaps squads would have to pay an entrance fee to join a league and they get prizes or a % of the total?

Perhaps, could also do like maps or something with an access fee. Ie: Charge a one time fee to access a map or zone (say $1).
Have one of each style map free to play, and then anything extra would cost. Could charge like a $5 fee r something to make a squad. Hell you'd have made $30 off eric in 3 days this past month.
Think of any game that has DLC options and that should be an idea. If you are avoiding paying for weapons or classes you have to find optional ways to turn over a profit with minimal impact on the playerbase.

If you have free maps (rotating) those are going to skyrocket the population .. like, why would I pay money for a map with a small number of people in it when I can go to a zone with thousands for free. If I owned this game I would want to promote league play as much as possible, so adding a fee to go into the league may not be the best route (at least at first). I definitely don't think Pay2Win is a good idea, if some dude drops $50 and starts murdering everyone in a tank or something.
Perhaps Ads? Maybe watch a 30 second commercial before joining a game, lol

Can't put it on steam... Overheard mizz talking about that they're(mizz, jovan and 2 others) under contract not to give out the coding for the game to anyone. They were allowed to use the coding for themselves and keep the game alive as long as there was no p2p option. Therefore steam wouldn't be allowed.

Skirmish "Beginner" zones are free but zones involving the use of Mechs and use of CTF like weapons could have a fee. idk
If we can't advertise the game ourselves and if whoever owns rights to Infantry now (DayBreak?) doesn't give a fuck then we're done.

Kevin thats why I said hypothetical in which they still owned it. How would they make money based off of this game while still maintaining a population? It would 100% need to be a free game, but would there be any other way for this game to make money from a large population assuming it had one.
Hiro if you do that it would be pay2win .. I dont even know if at this rate we would be able to manage thousands of people downloading the game. I remember this shit was laggy as fuck when there was 100 people on. I'm just thinking outloud as a hypothetical.

If you have the player base and league websites that are hosted by the game then all you need is enough hits to the website so that advertisers would want to advertise on this site...

They would have to bring back an RPG type zone and offer a 'premium' that gave you increased exp/cash per kill/bonus. This is Daybreak though, you saw what they did with H1Z1, be prepared for hundreds of useless skins that cost $2.49 each to open.
