Welcome to the first installment of my pre-season squad analysis. The first squad on my radar is Tank. One of 2 returning squads this season.

Before I continue I want to leave this disclaimer here: I am writing these based on my personal experiences and views. If you do not like what is written then find somewhere else to complain. This isn't the place.

Tank is coming into this season with a lot of momentum from last season with some interesting roster changes. With the addition of ExTrEmE(1), dave, Kiediss and Ice I am very interested to see what changes (if any) will be made to their play style. Tank came into USL last season with a predominantly CTFPL based roster that proved to be strong in some areas like close quarters combat but also falling short in areas where it mattered most, like, open battles. With the map rotation to EC I can see Tank taking advantage of this if they keep their strategies similar. When I look at Tank's roster I don't really see anyone who I can predict will be the stand out player or capture's my eye. Last season I believe killer was their highest killing player which was a surprise to me because I never really saw him as much of a "killer" in the past. If I had to guess I would say this season's player to watch will be either ExTrEmE(1) or ent. Here is my projected line up along with a brief snippet for each player.

--

albert (Marine): The captain of this Tank. Has shown that he can be very aggressive when needed and sacrificing for his team when necessary. His drawback from what I've seen is awareness. Eats a lot of unnecessary grenades and LAWs while tunneling for a kill. A captain must have eyes and ears everywhere on the map at all times. Seems to have a terminator mentality of locking in for a kill and ignoring everything else. Which can be good if you don't have the other team shooting you.

ent (Marine): I was able to play with dave for the first time on idc in the first season here. When dave actually cares he can be really deadly. Has great awareness and map knowledge. I also believe he mouses which is a big benefit when playing on a close quarters map like EC. I see dave producing a lot of battle openers for Tank.

ExTrEmE(1) (Marine): Fausto is one of the oldest players still around. He brings a lot of veteran knowledge and skill to Tank. He knows the maps, can lead when needed and get some upset kills which can turn around games. I think it would be wise to let Fausto lead some games for Tank just to switch things up.

Ice (Marine): The Iceman era is still in full swing. I have seen vast improvements from him since the SOE days. Not sure what happened but he's no longer someone you can just brush off in the battlefield. He will hold his ground and definitely have some upset kills if he plays in matches like he does in SBs.

Jane: (Medic): Jane is one of the older players still around. She is a solid asset in the medic department but tends to put herself out of position a lot resulting in lost battles. She doesn't use her marines as shields enough.

Kiediss (Medic): Solid medic. Don't really know much about him player wise. I think this is the guy who married that chinese girl Deviak tried to meet up with. He's definitely the medic you would want to start every game on that roster.

Killer (Marine): Tank's highest kill producing player so far. He's known for sneaking around the map and trying to get behind the enemy. His biggest weakness is that he's over aggressive. He charges too much resulting in kills sometimes. But not enough to warrant that kind of play style. I think he will be pretty even with dave in kills this season.

Unb: (Marine/LMG): Played with him on idc and was a very underrated support player. He knew how to get the right angles and when to commit or fall. He is definitely an up and coming player in Skirmish and I see him reaching top tier down the line if he continues to play like he has.

Backups:

Castiel (Med/Marine?): I've seen some good LAWs from him from time to time but never anything special of note. Doesn't produce many kills but can support the team fairly well when they need to fall out of a choke. I see him rotating play time with some other players on the squad this season.

King: (Ripper?/Marine?): Not much I can say about him aside from a decent support player. I cannot recall any instances where he's been the wow factor for his team. I think if he got more experience in USL he could be on par with Unb and reach higher tiers but right now I cannot confidently say he will be much of an asset to his team if they want to pull off upsets against the higher tier squads.

zebe: Haven't seen enough of him to really give enough insight. Will try to come back and revisit this later.

noire: I don't think noire will play. He's a good backup if you're playing against the lesser squads but his inactivity killed any kind of chance to play on the same level as the rest of the squad.

I see Tank making it to the semi finals again but more than likely falling short. I hope I'm wrong though. I would love to see a big upset.

Thanks for reading. I will be adding in the rest of the squads as I get time. Stay tuned.
