TL, DR: Motw, 2 veteran teams duke it out in a game that could have gone either way til the end.

Disclaimer: I had the privilege of sitting in the chat of Baby Back Bitches (BBB) this match and therefore can claim to know what they were thinking on the various situations.

Review:

This map was fought on EC with idc having the advantageous left side of the map. The fight started with a staring contest in South Rocks area as both squads look for any weaknesses in their opponent's set up. BBB had decided very earlier on that they would be decisive in their tactics and this was a main factor in the early half of this match.

BBB took a decisive charge north after the stand off in the East side of the Rocks while idc was still maintaining their defense inside. The charge northward surprised idc player Cage and before idc could react, they were down 1 nothing.

Being down as the clock tick down forced idc to go on the offensive and that initially ended disastrously for them. Their aggressive push into the Rocks at one point cost them 2 deaths while making no gain. The teams traded feigns and counter push several time until they meet again with BBB (ahead 7-1) pushing northward to the east side of Pig Rocks. A call was made to charge the northern group of idc who were coming eastward just north of Pig Rocks.

This was a disaster for BBB. idc's northern group was the majority of their team and they got there first with enough numbers to blunt BBB's charge. idc eventually gave way but this delay was crucial as it allowed idc's southern forces to catch up behind BBB.

Another crucial mistake here by BBB was to focus on the wily Cage who can dodge with the best of them. The entire BBB lost 5 to finally chase down and kill Cage just outside of East mid... but by then their decimated numbers could not hope to fight off the entire idc. idc gained the lead here (8-7) and is effectively back into the match.

To say that this was an even match between veteran squads would not begin to describe how well each team played tonight. Attention to map and team placement was evident on both sides. BBB stabs and picks as idc returns the favor with little bites of their own. The steady dance between the two teams was great to watch (and even better if you guys could hear Yosh's southern drawl, punctuated by the sharp command of Easoe on discord as they marshal their troops).

It all came down to a crucial battle just north of idc's base. 5 BBB players were on the left side of the warehouse just north of idc's base. 3 BBB trying to force their way on the right side of that building. I believe Fausto here played a crucial role from behind idc's base lines. His cross fire held back the 5 BBB players long enough to cause confusion among their ranks. The 3 BBB players at the right side of the warehouse charged first thinking their comrades had charged (as was the call in BBB chat). They were cut to shred before things got sorted out. idc put the game out of reach here as they cleaned up the remaining BBB players.

All in all, this was an excellent game and well deserving of being MotW. I think that BBB's explosive decisiveness earlier on gave them an edge against the slower but steadier idc. But idc was not shy to go on the offensive, and their patience eventually paid off in forcing BBB's hand at the end.

Good read. I like how you sat in on their chat for the extra insight.
I just watched the video of this match and I thought it was extremely entertaining. Match of the week? I think the best match thus far in the season.
I'm glad you brought up how half of BBB decided to chase Cage. I started to laugh because they just couldn't hit him and he nearly made it to safety lol
There was a shit ton of cross streaming going on throughout most of this match and I couldn't take my eyes off it.
