USL can't go below 7v7 and retain the same gameplay that drives the league.

I see a straight hard cap doing more harm than good as well. Look at all the inactivity this season. We're suppose to lower roster numbers and maintain SBing and a healthy league when squads are forfeiting and using NTs left and right?

Smart caps such as a very well done salary cap is a great idea. But the one squad that we really need the salary cap for is against anything that separates them. I would like to really simplify a salary style idea where squads can have a normal cap of 9-10 players, with a max cap of 15-16 but the last 6-7 players have to be lower tier or new to USL players. But I seriously doubt the league has captains that have the self-interest of the league in mind or the leadership/energy to devote attention to players that aren't already decent at USL.

Regarding new gametype/objective, whatever is done it can't be drastic or you will never get it through without a huge rebellion. The first thought in my mind would be a randomly spawning flag every so often when the squads aren't engaged or even ever 5 minutes. First squad to cap the flag gets 3-4 kills added to score or some sort of advantage. Maybe two flags added to the map. Could be a Hellspawn inspired KoTH type flag where your squad must sit near it for 2 minutes to cap it.

I think USL can drop to 6v6 without losing any core gameplay. I could be wrong. But it's not such a definite imo.

When's its 7v7 or 8v8 usually a lot of time we'll break into groups of 3 or 4, maybe 5 anyways.

6v6 just means we'll always be in groups of 6 or 3 probably. Definitely doable without changing too much of the game.

4v4 on the other hand really just boils down to who has strictly the best fighters. Angles and streaming become less existent due to less players firing, etc. Position thus takes less importance.

So ya, I'm down for trying 6v6s because it might lead to spreading out players. I'm against changing USL to 4v4 though. That seems more like a side ladder kind of league idea to me.

hardcap only prevents more players from playing, nobody is going to disperse talent and nobody will make a squad of FA that's worth a shit

Ya. I feel like the cap always gets raised because there's players that just don't want to play unless it's with some other players. So they might prefer sitting in hard cap roster instances.

Would having reduced lineup sizes encourage some players to branch out though?

We went from 8v8 to 7v7 as the baseline and people complained that they wanted to be able to play more of their squad members. So no matter what, this argument always gets split down the middle.

For sure some players wait, but a lot of players legit go inactive or come back.. or don't even get asked, leave, get kicked, etc... lots of transactions happen every season, should those players be left out? It's a tough call.

@Emp I think 6v6 would be similar to CTFPL going 8v8. Does it change the core gameplay? Probably not. Does it make a difference? We would probably not see any heavys on defense or JTs on offense. 6v6s result in more death ball comps with no solos at all. 6v6s is something I would resort to if the population decreases.

Well, my main reason in suggesting this is

1. Can we squeeze an 8th squad to eliminate bye weeks?
2. I'd personally prefer some smaller maps that reduce the running around time - assuming it doesn't result in massive dropship raping increases

Naturally if no one else thinks 6v6 is the way to go, it's no sweat off my back. I was just thinking it might result in another squad, albeit slim chance, and then of course I was also suggesting this with the hope that maybe smaller lineups would work better on smaller maps.

But I do not see much support for this avenue. So I won't be pushing for it.

1. That has to do with leadership. Most leaders probably want some squad that has some competitiveness and active players. Typically can't find a squad that has solid leader, solid players, and being active.
2. Probably results in the same thing eric discussed that would reduce tactics and become more a straight up skill game, which I don't mind tbh.

I think the lack of squads has more so to do with leadership than having a larger pool in the free agent list.

Ya lack of willing and able captains is definitely an issue I did overlook

Most semi-capable leaders that still play don't want to lead a squad anymore unfortunately.
