The players back then, skill wise, were just way better. Leading and communication improved, but raw skill was much more widespread then the abomination its turned into. Non of the top tier S players are still around. SL in my opinion had the most skilled and creative players across Mech,NML,SK. You had Pris, maddux, herthbul and tris (maybe im a missing a few..?) show up for free infantry. None of the players here today did much of anything in SL, at least nothing memorable. In my opinion, SL was always where the best were separated from the average.

NB had a very strong line up of players who would just outclass you 1v1. Technology improved communications, but not individual mechanics, that never changed.

again NB only won because they had voice and they were all 40 facing 13 year olds lol, the talent was not insane on NB.. they would have been destroyed had they went to SL... USL was always the little brother league where people went who couldn't hack it in SL

But then bring like Alex English or Adrian Dantley to the 2020s - just base line skill of all gamers is so much higher, bigger resos/voice coms/playstyle - everything is improved

Pretty sure I won the most championships ever if you want to combine SL/USL so I can speak to it.

I think Free Infantry players are better overall "now" due to a lot of different factors (way more mousers, higher reso, older age, discord, etc...). Can Dr. Jejo, skm, akzel, legacy, sky, etc perform at similar level vs Sov, Sol, nos, Iron, Champ (plumber), and Easoe (plumber) if they played today? I believe so, but back then, everyone was playing on 1024 × 768 reso and like 15 years old.

I will say I am definitely shit now compared to when I was 17 but that was mostly because I played this game like 5 hours a day every single day. If I played the same amount now and with 2k resolution combined with my current understanding of the game, I would be better than 17 years old me.

If you take the best players from SOE vs best players from Free Infantry, using the same pc setup at that time, I would give the advantage to Free Infantry players. Its like F1, car (pc resolution) is half the game.

Also part of the reason these "S" tier players doesn't play the game anymore is when they came back, they realized they are not as dominant as before due to variety of reasons and they stopped playing. (Cough akzel cough)

Lastly, SL might be the more complexed zone, but is it better? The championships were all camping for 28.5 mins and see who gets picked off by sniper/ripper/nader first, I would know, coz I was in most of them.
