Breakdown

You can't help but feel like the chronicle of Darkslayers in USL is just at its beginning. Tyrael promised in Season 24 that he had a team of mostly CTF players who wanted a piece of the action in USL, but circumstances didn't give them the opportunity to make good on that offer. But Darkslayers entered the game in a big way in Season 25, with steady progression over the course of the regular season that peaked exactly when it should have - playoff time. I cannot express how close we came to an upset over Birds in Game 1 of the Playoffs finishing 31-30 in a playoff game that must be watched to be believed. It was truly an epic moment, and an announcement to USL that Darkslayers would return, better than ever.

Season 26 is that season. They have the personnel, they have the leadership, and they are working on the experience necessary to compete with top-tier squads every weekend. A lot of the strength of this team does hinge on Tyrael aka King, an old-school skirmish legend who brings a lot of versatility in class selection to the table. He is supported with solid leadership from his co-captains in Fausto and Manu - also both vet players with a bevy of leadership and gameplay experience themselves to offer. They have a great supporting cast as well with a mix of experience - Chuck, Brillhart, Phony, and the recent addition of Universal Soldier 2k (great pickup for both Uni and DS, btw). FlyMolo is also on this roster and I am still awaiting him to fully shake the rust off and return to the form we all know he is capable of. A list of this team also wouldn't be complete without mentioning Typhoon, one of the most talented and underrated marines in the league right now, who has emerged as a killing machine at a catalyst player for this ever-improving Darkslayers team.

As for weaknesses - they still have a lot to learn making consistency always a little bit of an issue. They also seem to struggle in medic category a little bit on Sundays which may just be an issue of experience and familiarity between players as well. Fausto's leadership improved this squad significantly in Season 25, and if they continue to play their game at their pace this team has the ability overcome any of their individual drawbacks. I think based on the form they were in at the end of Season 25 I would estimate that Darkslayers end up in the middle of the pack, with wins over Francotiradores, Macrodata Refinement and Evolution. I think Francotiradores and MR both have a chance at pulling out a surprising upset, but the odds of that happening are low.

Overall: 7.25/10 - #3 Squad in Romulocks Power Rankings for Season 26
