OP
Hello to all of you fellow infantrymen.
Infantry became a part of my life around the 2002-2003 timeframe. Let me tell you, when I first started playing, it was love at first site. I began my Infantry career as ChronoCrosser. After a few years with this alias I changed it to Gohan ssj6 after playing with Gokussj6 for quite some time and observing his gameplay. But let's backtrack a little. One of the first players I spoke to in game was iii (who always had the dogbone banner [is that what they were called?]) This guy taught me how to use the keyboard essentially. Good guy. I almost exclusively played in the pubs, but after a few years and an alias change to Gohan ssj6, I started to get curious about playing more professionally (USL). However, I was basically unleadable due to some serious lack of attention and being a spaz.
Funny story, I actually almost got (forget his name) the leader of M&Ms to let me join, but he said I had to have a 3-1 kill/death ratio before he would let me join. This frustrated me because I was pretty good and had spent years and hours upon hours (with some temporary life breaks in between) playing this damn game. I just really loved the pub, so before this I hadn't put too much serious thought into playing Skirmish League.
Anyhoo, I even would beat really good guys to try to convince them to let me join with a different alias, but, despite thinking I was a good player, they thought I was a spy trying to infiltrate (you guys were intense back then).
I eventually met Deviak and he let me join his squad. I forget the name, but we weren't too hot at the time. It was soon after this I quit for good.
I really can't express how much this game meant to me growing up. I loved this game. I still love this game. Not more than a few hours ago was I watching a random match on YouTube which was posted. Thank you for that by the way.
Some other amazing memories were playing in the pub and having Akzel absolutely annihilate in that huge tank thing. Holy shit balls that was hilarious and really quite daunting. Or trying to figure out which damn room the "cool" guys were playing in #join reallyannoying.
I remember many great players, some of whom I think are on this site now. Kaga, Fairfax (was an amazing med), Armor, em4awon, Legacy, Overdose, iii, Dark Sol, Akzel, Leak, Atlas, Deviak, Killer, MP (cool mod), H0L0, and many, many more. I even remember the squad leader of The Cadre. That guy would let anyone join his squad. Admittedly, when I first started playing Infantry, I did join it. I always wondered what drove that guy. He was extremely cordial and always willing to help others. It actually boggled my mind a little because I personally would have found more enjoyment in being the best. But he was just cool being the squad leader of The Cadre. And that CwA~ squad was interesting in its own right as well for many similar reasons; they had some serious camaraderie going on.
Once I got really good, I used the alias bu11et for a few months, and I remember having a 10-1 kill/death ratio. It was about 1000-100. I was excellent at knife and could really lob a nade. I was really good at strafing too and fair at aiming--especially for a keyboarder (I never could get the mouse to work properly). This was close to when I stopped playing. It must have been around 2010 when I stopped for good.
Alas, here I am in 2016 and as soon as I came back onto this site my mouth dried up a little bit from the, albeit fruitless, anticipation.
What is interesting is that I would love to come back and try this game again, but I have since married, joined the Air Force, and I am training to cross-train into Combat Controller, which is Special Forces for the Air Force. There is no feasible way for me to fit this game into my schedule, and plus I was so addicted to this game as a child, it would probably be unhealthy for me as well.
But that leads me back to my original point: I love this game. I wish I could have been as good at this game as much as much as I enjoyed it.
You guys are all spectacular, and thank you for not letting the Infantry legacy fade away.
