To give everyone an update on what's happening:

The ratings are almost completed. The ratings were blind, so that there was no possibility of being lazy and copying other ratings. We're in the process of testing an activity reduction formula applied to the ratings to determine if it'd be more effective than what was in place this previous season. Most likely, we'll be increasing the reduction that was in place before by 150% or more. Example of that: instead of a 20% reduction to salary cost for playing 0% games over the past 3 seasons, it might be something like 50%. We're determining whether a rating or cost reduction is more effective, if there's any difference at all.

Once the ratings are finalized, we can determine the appropriate values for salary cap, squad minimum, and so on. The best way to determine this is by creating mock squads and running previous squads through the formulas to see what turns up, and adjusting depending on how restrictive we want it to be. However..

We've noticed that there's been a lot of interest in pursuing a tier system, so we've made a new poll to find out where the community stands.

To clarify for any who don't know what is meant by each option in the poll:

<b>Salary Cap</b> refers to what we used this previous season. Players are assigned a cost, squads are assigned a salary cap and roster minimum. The mechanics seem to be pretty well understood by most of us. The biggest issue with this system is assigning an accurate player cost relative to the squad salary cap. It's more complicated than a tier system, and requires a lot of fine tuning to get the values just right.

<b>Tier System</b> refers to something similar to what ER posted. Players are placed into tiers, based upon their ratings, activity, or some other criteria. Hypothetically, Tier 1 might be players rated 92 and above. Tier 2 might be players rated 87-91. Tier 1 could also be players rated 90+ that showed to 90%+ of games. Squads can only select x amount of players from each tier. The limit is only important for the higher rated players, so that we don't see a concentration of top rated players playing together. The biggest issue with this system is also it's biggest draw. It's simple and easy to understand, but it also equates some players that are not equals. For example, both Sov and Fax might be in tier 1, but by no means are they equal. However it does allow more freedom of movement for the higher cost players, like Champion, Sov, etc. but also being more restrictive to squad captains who are limited in their selection.

<b>Salary + Tier</b> is a combination of the two systems. There would still be a salary cap that squads would need to stay under, and squads could only recruit a set number from each tier. Because this is definitely the most restrictive and complicated of the choices, it's tough to say how well this would work.

Take your time and think about what you'd like to see for this upcoming season. No matter the winner, the admin team will work to make it happen as best we can. We hope to keep to our original schedule of a 3 week off-season, so we'd like this decided ASAP. If it's decided that we move forward with a salary system, all of the mechanics are in place to do just that. Specific numbers will need to be tweaked, but the framework is in place. If either of the other two options win, then we will move as quickly as possible to make them a reality. Let us know what you think is best.
