Hey, that's my game! I'm sorry if you thought I was a dick to you, but you two messaged me on facebook (I've never DM'd anyone on twitter) and immediately attacked my work. That's just not exactly a way to get a positive response out of someone. I've been working on the game for just over a year now, so to have someone attack that without even considering my viewpoint is a little insulting. I'm not sure what you expected from those messages.
Anyways, I understand there are some concerns and I would love the opportunity to discuss those with you guys because you're the community that likely will be interested most in the remake.
The game I have is pretty much feature ready. What I mean by that is that almost all of the features you saw in the original infantry, are in the game now. It may not look very fancy or anything at the moment, but I'm a coder by day and it's what I'm good at. So I'm making sure all of the code is in place before considering getting the graphics, that's what a typical development lifecycle looks like for solo work. I can't really afford crazy fancy graphics at the moment, but I'll be launching a kickstarter soon to hopefully get funding for much better graphics. Epic also has a development grant program that I'll be applying for to help out as well. I've been working with a studio called Ironbelly out of Montreal, super awesome guys who do amazing work for pretty cheap. They've done the concept art, the logo I'm working on, and the base model you currently see in my version of Infantry. If I can secure proper funding, I have a list of over 300 items they will be creating. I understand there are some concerns about the graphics of the game, but I assure you they will hold up well enough to today's standards that it will be marketable to the public.
I understand there are some legal concerns. I will tell you that Lattasoft is incorporated, and anyone who's studies business a bit knows that the entire point of a corporation is to protect your personal assets. I did not create this game - as far as the law is concerned I work for Lattasoft Limited who created the game. Yes, they can sue my corporation, no they cannot sue me. My corporation has never made a dime, so if they want to sue Lattasoft, they will not get anything and it will not be worth their time. Furthermore, a case can be made that the since Infantry Online is not available in any capacity, that I'm not taking any money from them. I've also read up a bit on intellectual property, and like others have mentioned to me, yes I can't take names from Infantry Online. They own the names to those items, stuff like "Maklov" is considered lore, which is considered intellectual property. I will be coming up with new names for all the weapons, I'm sure you will find some similarities, though ;) Yes, I'm taking a risk with all of this, and it's the thing I've been most careful of.
As for the comment about not wanting help, it's true, I prefer to work solo. You may have misinterpreted what I said, because I assure you that I understand no support from this community would be suicide for my game. Unless you're an artist, or a coder, who is willing to work for Lattasoft, I just can't even consider you unfortunately. The only person I've even considered for this work was Jovan, but he wasn't willing to work for me so we went our separate ways.
I haven't stayed current with the Infantry community, that's true. But I assure you I had my day, before SOE bought the game out and tried to turn it into a pay to play cash cow. Like most people, that completely killed my interest in the game. Back in my blunder years of 10 year old me I was under "lethalcowz". I know it's nothing compared to some of you guys here, but I think I had just over 2,500 hours between twin peaks, xtreme, and EOL.
In regards to maps, I have some big plans in the long run, some smaller ones in the short term. I'm hoping to release an early access version of the game later this year with CTF, CM, and CA. Shortly after that, I will be implementing features into the game for you guys to create your own squads, and have skirmishes that are fully organized in game. It should make management a million times easier.
One of the other big comments I get is in regards to a pay structure and how I will generate profit from the game. Right now it's up in the air between having a one time cost of $5-20, plus cosmetic items, or just making it completely free to play, with cosmetic items. The question right now is the feasibility of selling those skins in game. I just don't know how popular it will be to see people buy weapon, player, etc skins. I think taunt emotes would be not bad to sell, or stuff like GG grenades, and $ PA's. I will be making some surveys later asking for opinions on that, or if you want to share your opinion here, I would be curious of your thoughts.
I would love to hear your comments about any of what I've said, the community is one of the most important aspects to making sure my version of Infantry will be successful in the long run. If you are curious about my development, as Dodge kindly pointed out, my facebook page is http://facebook.com/Lattasoft and my twitter is https://twitter.com/Lattasoft any support through either of those channels is much appreciated.
