Honestly, think about it (no offense to any of the staff giving up their time today)...
<b>Webmaster/Tech Support</b>
Probably needed, but once the website is built and functioning well it's pretty much self-sustaining unless you're trying to add something or have a major website issue come up (then it quickly becomes the most important role by <i>far</i> -- I remember leaning really heavily on asoc from time to time).
<b>Scheduler</b>
The captains can schedule their own matches (and if you're doing an "everyone plays everyone once format", anyone can create the entire schedule).
<b>Referee</b>
Always the most important role because you want a third-party reffing every match. This person has to give up their time to run games and you need reliable referees that are going to show up consistently. Agree completely with Romulocks that it should always be the #1 priority and you always need guys that play in the league every week to step up, memorize a few macros, and run a match here & there (you're probably watching the match anyway, right?).
You can run this whole league with good captains working together & 1-2 reliable referees (1 Coolmo could do it). The administrator just needs to keep things flowing, be respected (for the most part, will never be 100%) as an unbiased person that's going to do what's right, and make sure that the referee position is staffed well.
Someone like Jane would actually be really good. She's always going to be fair & unbiased. She'll rarely, if ever, get dragged down or baited into stupid arguments.

Palm, please direct your post here.
In reply to Armor: you are talking about having reliable refs as the most important aspect of USL. The application to be a ref is in the Staff page, which then goes to the Head Admin. In the past, most Head Admin's would receive these applications and distribute them to the current staff, and a vote would be held to accept that applicant or not.
Due to this, I think that we need to establish the Head Admin role prior to even accepting or creating new referee positions. I agree that a reliable staff is the most important thing in running this league, but you have to admit that there will be complaints NO MATTER who is given the roles. So before accepting new referees, my opinion was that we needed to democratically appoint a new Head Admin, and then in turn establish the rest of the positions.
But anyway, this is all useless at the moment. I await Palm/Mizzouse's comment.
Also,
Webmaster is Champion at the moment, and there are still things that need to be updated on site. He also does this for free and at his own expense; giving up his own time to run the website and ultimately this league.
Scheduler is Joe T. Does it consistently and well. No complaints here really.

there is a lot to a website. tox gives up a lot of his OWN time that would cost A LOT of money if you were to pay someone to do it. Hes constantly adding new shit for us to enjoy. every other week theres a new feature, do you guys think that makes itself? anyone who thinks that they can do better than tox please contact me cause i need one made. :)
As for admin, what is a community vote really going to do? fuck shit up in my opinion. Power goes to most peoples heads. Armor is completely correct in pretty much everything he is saying.
There really isn't anything wrong with mizz and or palm being admins. they put so much of their own time already into this game for you people to play. from coding shit in the game, to finding a server and hosting the game, to keeping shit running and updating for you guys/girls. I'm not sure if you're all delusional or something but in SOE infantry, it took literally a year to get a map rotated. It was pulling teeth to get ANY item list updated. I was admin of CTFPL for a few seasons and when I wanted to update items or damage on items or the map it was fucking damn near impossible. The only time it would get done is if MP logged on and i caught him personally.
Here on Free Infantry, you guys have updates/rotations/maps/alias changes and any other support anytime you want it. Do you not realize how many hours it took palm or mizz to build those three little game zones we play? ( redblue/greenyellow/whiteblack ) Not only did they do it once, but then added it to KR map and put that up for us. Fuck me! give your heads a shake. Its actually fucking sick how immature and selfish a lot of people are after 10+ years. Time to grow up. Its a game. Its free. These people are doing this for the game, and for the players... aka YOU.
If you dont want one figure to run the league then get the head ref to post stats and shit and use the community comity that everyones talking about to act as admin. You all say you want the players to run the league, so run it! Why have a admin and a comity? Just a thought anyways

There's no need to clarify the two roles at the end of your post. If you re-read my post, you'll note that I mention that when there's work to be done on the site, the webmaster's technical skill is irreplaceable (most important staff member; league MVP; #1; final boss - whatever special title you want to give him, it's deserved).
For scheduler, I'm not saying that Joe's not going a good job. I have no idea either way. The first line of my post was that it wasn't intended to offend anyone. However, the league can function much better without a scheduler vs. without referees and I know you agree with that so there's no need to go further. That's the only point I was making.
Besides that, you're saying the head admin (why's it a "head admin" when there's only one?) needs to review applications and there's a staff vote on who should be referee. Pretty much anyone posting in this thread so far would make a good referee and, if willing to give their time, should be accepted 9 times out of 10... I'm not sure why you need a panel to review applicants for the role at this stage of the game. It was different when Wazz was trying to become a referee and we had other options (I think DC actually used to hold referee "tryouts"... looking back, that was ridiculous).

Good points by Albert, too - Palm/Mizzouse give up a lot of free time already to help out and would be just fine in the role. Champion would make a good administrator, too. If none of them have royally screwed anything up and they want the "job" (Champion said he didn't earlier in the thread, but still as deserving as any other), you guys shouldn't really have much to complain about. :)
tl;dr - "Why is everyone freaking out?"

Why is everyone freaking out? I have no problem staying admin if it makes things easier. I'm just not playing this season which might make things difficult since I might not be around for everything. But all I ever did as admin was input stats and post the results anyways.

I don't understand what the argument from anyone is at the moment. You want Palm/Mizz to be Admin? Okay that's fine. I'm not against it.
When Champion was Admin, we got complaints. When Palm was Admin, we got complaints. I personally think they did a very good job. I'm a ref, I got complaints. We followed through with the rules logically and within reason. I cared enough to respond to these complaints in compliance to the rules. My point is that whoever is appointed these positions, even if you were to see them as "reliable", there will still be complaints. Why? Because people don't understand the rules. The only thing I thought of to even TRY reducing complaints were to make a democratically sound solution.
Personally, however, that's not what I want. If I had to put my 100% opinion in here, I would want Infantry to be run like a dictatorship. Palm/Mizz can do whatever the fuck they want and can implement it. I honestly have no problems with it, and it would probably resolve any issues since people can't really say shit. They put the most into this game and should run it the way they want and the way they see fit. Without them, we wouldn't even be able to play.
In any case, there are always complaints and it will continue to be that way even when someone tries to find a solution. People will play the game regardless, so let's get the game running and just play.
Also, the last two comments were to enlighten Armor about who actually had the roles and how they're doing with it, not arguing about who should take it or any other reason.
WHATEVERRR DUDES. PLAY THE GAME. HAVE FUN. LESS RAGE.
Palm/Mizz let's goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

The question should be; Why is this even a topic of conversation? The SAME 3 people that volunteered their time, effort, skill are the same 3 people being questioned for the work they have done or to some haven't done?? (Mizzouse, Palm and Champion).
To bring this game back 'free' for the "community" to enjoy? And yet, the "community" wants to oust them???!! Instead of appreciate the fact that there is still a game to play because of people/players like them.
So it's not perfect, can you really expect it to be? It's Sony's game, that they are TRYING to rebuild for US. We should as I said before, be willing to offer our help any way we can. Be it suggestions, time, knowledge, funding, etc. Instead of bashing them for the 1 or 2 or even 3 things a handful of players didn't like about a season. Discuss it and help fix it!
That is exactly how to: kill the game. And if that's what you are after, why don't you just stop playing it? It's not that hard to do. Just don't log in. Let the others that enjoy it continue to enjoy it.
The community is just as important. Or it should be, but not if it's here with negativity that continues to hurt the game. And you wonder why it's not any better yet??

Agreed with navy on his last reply. Leave it as it was. The complaints will continue, because.....they can. Let Mizzouse/Palm/Champion continue to rebuild and better this game (if they so choose), and just play the game.

People help. People complain. Will never change & I'm not sure there's ever been a volunteer staff member of one of these leagues that never received a complaint. Can't judge it based on that - have to judge success as a whole.

If I thought mizz/palm/navy had any capability of being unbiased I would agree. But it's simply not true. I commend them for putting time in and keeping the game running, but that doesn't make them the best choice for the hammer vote of decisions.
Why is letting the community vote on decisions a bad idea? Do you guys want to keep grudges and biases effecting every important decision in the league? I don't get that I guess.
As for hiring referees, you don't need an admin to hire them. Make the applications go to staff thread and the webmaster and current referees can vote them in or out, alternatively we could let the public vote on referees.
The more people we have making decisions the less likely the grudges of a few will steer our league into a ditch.
There's 0 reason to have an admin with a final say when we have such an active community. And we have a lot of smart, creative, and opinionated people here, why wouldn't we want to utilize that?

I never knew skill until I found Danny Le
Until now I didn't know the feel of victory
TheDevice sweetheart, you listening?
Staring at your ELO, I feel so much pity
With it, I couldn't buy a gram of weed
Must be hard, staring at a page of defeats
Let Z tell you a fairly long story
Of how Danny became the undisputed King
Born parentless on the Ho Chi Minh trail
Danny survived in the woods no one but himself
A Vietcong born late only a couple of years
Danny knew cold and he knew fear
TheDevice, you don't even know how to kill
You don't know how to eat raw meat stale
Don't know how to shiver till you all pale
It's 1999, ten Viet gangs on Dannys tail
7 year old Danny clutching on to the steering wheel
A cold Vietnam is not what one likes to feel
Running gooks over left center and right
Danny shooting back with a gat held dead tight
Blood splattered over the Hanoi street frozen dry
And 7 year old Danny refused to die
Danny knew war, he knew techniques
Unlike TheDevice, Danny has never met defeat
Teeth gritted together, Danny patiently clinged
Before slitting his final rival and hearing him scream
It was 2005 when Danny finally tasted victory
And found himself as a student of Cung Le
Stowed away on a ship to the great West
Danny was about to prove that he was the best
Paying 450 a month to a hacker named Nebez
Danny found a friend he could comprehend
Then on a night torn with freezing tornado wind
Danny was matched up with the notorious Froggen
It was dark, cold, and one had to make the first move
Froggen moved and Danny shot him in the right foot
Then in the left then in the chest then he no longer stood
Having met victory again, Danny liked how it tastes
And as the dawn rose, Danny began to realize his fate
A year later, in a furnished American living space
It was TheDevice's lonely seventeenth birthday
With no friends to see, he sat staring at his baked cake
To TheDevice, loneliness was there day by day
That was when the truck crashed through the house
Three arms and a bag snatching TheDevice before he could yelp
At the Mexican border a screaming TheDevice woke
Flailed his fists before crushed in a death choke
TheDevice was on his last breath when he heard the shots
Trying to stand up for the last time, he realized could not
He smelled blood but he could not really see
Only that an unwelcome saviour stood over his feet
TheDevice asked the masked figure for one last chance
There was no response, so TheDevice ran
Ran and ran, he never turned around
He ran till he collapsed on the snow, his breath all out
TheDevice was gone, but Danny could still hear his murmurs
And he lowered his mask, on it read GGU Shiphtur
