It would be a huge advantage for whichever team happens to be closer if the flag can be picked up. At least if it's static in an open area, then the other team can get a fair fight.

His overall idea is good, though... as evidenced by how I naturally came to a similar conclusion.

A static flag in a contestable area is better than a mobile one. 3 flags is better than one to encourage constant movement between flags, rather than the sitting that will happen with one flag.

While we're ironing out the details of how the flag situation should work HS is a bit overzealous and found his old UAV files which hes only going to implement in Kaiser's pass.

He will also be doing the following

AT: Clip will get 2 more rounds and backpedal speed same as marines, this might introduce AT to be a little bit more viable.
Grenadier: SL 40's for now more to possibly come.

But also same as before where if lets say IDC is at h1, they move 1 down to h3 and camp they cant go back to h1 once timer expires again unless of course theyre fighting.

mobile flags in any scenario whether it be 1 or 3 isn't a solution. It'll just be whoever wins the first battle will dictate how it goes. If I have all 3 flags there is no way I'm leaving. Unless thats what you want to turn the game into, a fight for flags and then camp for 5 minutes while the opposition is in a stalemate w/ you.

stationary flag in an uncampable spot (aka lots of angles to get focused out and capture it) Most of the fighting will be around this spot, but I'm okay with that since majority of the fighting on every map is in the same spot.

And I think we should test the changes that would be easier for mizz to implement. No sense in him doing tons of work just to test something a few people in this thread have already told you what would/could happen.

you can take the flag and run with it but you show up on the map and you can only hold it for 5 minutes before it spawns somewhere else.

Yeah, but the issue isn't knowing where the person with the flag is if one squad is camping their base with it. Wouldn't it basically be getting flag > run to hold spot > despawn > The only time a good fight would break out imo is if it's a neutral spot, and if that's the case, might as well have it permanently there. It gets rid of the running and the holding

So here's my take:

Flags aren't USL. Could they change the league for the better? Maybe, but I would expect a ton of backlash because any change as major as that will have opposition for the simple fact that its change, let alone if hurts certain aspects of gameplay that currently enjoyable in USL.


Actual Real Problem:

Squads do not really have an incentive to engage in battles once they have the lead unless they clearly have the upper hand or they are just trying to make the match funner.

Camping / staying close to spawns are two tactics that help you gain the upper hand in a battle. Both styles are rewarded when you have the lead.


So Solutions to Problem:

What would actually remedy this? If every time a squad is caught camping or using an unfun playstyle, theres a few ways to punish them - taking way score, giving their location to opposing team, or putting one of their players in a penalty box.

I would recommend starting off with just giving away their location. The best matches to play in and watch are the ones where both teams are constantly tactically moving around the map, with only quick play setups (1-2 minutes tops staying in same area.)

So let's reward constantly moving your squad around. Let's penalize keeping your squad in the same area for too long. Let's penalize a squad even faster if that area is close to their base.

So let's say if a squad has players in the same coord grid for than 30 seconds near their base (red zone), they receive a penalty such as their location displayed to entire arena.

Titan Militia has received a camping penalty at A7!

Next if they are bit further out (orange zone), let's check if any of their players have stayed in same area for more than 60 seconds.

Next if they are very far out , they get checked to see if in same location every 90 seconds (yellow). Penalized if caught.


So basically, if your squad isn't moving around you are going to be penalized. Penalties can be losing points of score, location displayed via goggles, arena messages, or hellspawns uav, or playing down a player. All this is easily scriptable. Keeps USL mostly the same, just hurts camping and lame gameplay.

That might be because the coords could also the lead the other team into a trap or disadvantageous situation. Coords + temporary EM goggles that lets the non offending team see each enemy but enemy can't see them until normal LOS? Or could start detracting points/kills from the offending team.

So how is that not installing change but flags are?

I'd argue EM goggles is a way harsher change than putting in a flag.
