I think your last line there is precisely the problem. They're scared to kill characters in the way GRRM did because it'll upset fanboys so the solution is.. put everyone on the brink of death but not actually kill 'em, hurhur standard hollywood drama at the sacrifice of good storylines/writing/logic.

I'll still finish the show (would be silly not to with 3 episodes left) but as stated previously, if that's the end of the ww/nk/bran storyline and Cersei serves as a final villain, it's a huge disappointment. I haven't even read the books so this isn't me complaining that it's not like the books, but it's obvious where the books ended and the writers had to pick up because the show got lost that "anyone can die at anytime feel".
